Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

A Review

By Dorys Kaminskas December 29, 2011

My family and I had the privilege of being guests of Plays-in-the-Park's production of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ. Plays-in-the-Park has been putting on the production of Joseph for 17 years. It was my first time seeing it and I'm only sorry that I've missed so many years of this fun, colorful and wonderfully entertaining musical show.

The show is based on the biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors.  It is a story about a boy and his prophetic dreams and the adventures he goes on.

Josephwas an absolute delight.  It was filled with a whole lot of dancing and superb singing by an awesome cast.  There wasn't a dull moment. I especially was impressed with the choreography.  It was interesting to see how they depicted the story with virtually no dialogue and mainly song and dance.  There was also plenty of humor to keep you smiling and laughing.  The songs were an assortment of catchy musical styles.  From country-western, calypso and pop to rock and roll.  It had it all.  The passion and enthusiasm of the cast was captured with every song and move they made.  Each one was a true performer.  My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this very entertaining musical.  It is the perfect show to take your family to during the holiday season, and it is one that will be added to my family's holiday tradition for years to come.

Plays-in-the-Park represents a community of talented volunteers who put on plays during the summer months and one production of Joseph in the winter. You can catch their summer performances at Roosevelt Park in Edison, NJ.  Upcoming shows include:
